WAX BLENDS
Wax blends for industrial applications
Cerax develops wax blends for adhesives, coatings, flexible packaging, mining applications and polishes. By combining base waxes with other formulation components, the team can adjust processing behaviour and finished-product properties for a specific production requirement.
Browse the product families below to compare the available options. The right starting point depends on the substrate, application equipment, working temperature and performance priorities. A grade used successfully in one process still needs to be evaluated in another before it is selected for routine supply.

5 questions to guide blend selection
1. What must the finished product do?
Describe the result you need, such as a barrier coating, controlled adhesive flow, flexibility or a polish finish. Explain the present limitation and the conditions under which it appears. A clear application brief is more useful than choosing a product only by its melting point.
2. How will the material be processed?
Include the equipment, temperature range, application method and substrate. For a coating, note the target coat weight and how the coated material is subsequently handled. For an adhesive, describe the bonding operation and the materials being joined.
3. Which product information is needed?
Ask for the current technical and safety data for the proposed grade. Confirm the available form, packaging and handling guidance with Cerax. Where a particular end-use approval is required, request the relevant documentation for the exact product and intended application.
4. How will a sample be assessed?
Compare the candidate with your current material under consistent trial conditions. Record preparation, application and finished-product observations. Review the results with the technical team before moving to a larger evaluation. Product suitability cannot be established from a general description alone.
5. Is a tailored formulation required?
If a standard grade does not meet the brief, discuss the constraints that need to change. Cerax’s custom formulation service provides a route for evaluating application-specific requirements alongside the established product range.

For the terminology used in water-in-wax systems, see the IUPAC definition of an emulsion. Application-specific selection and handling should always follow the documentation supplied for the proposed product.
Wax is the most effective regulator of adhesive properties. The primary function of waxes in products like Hot Melt Adhesives (HMA) is to reduce the melting point and viscosity, improve the fluidity and wettability, increase bonding strength, reduce agglomeration and ultimately reduce the cost of the glue. Cerax produces a range of blends that are suitable for hot melt and ‘cool’ melt applications.
Cerax Cool Melt
Congealing Point:
Colour:
A low melting temperature hot melt adhesive, used for heat sealable packaging and coating.
Cerax provides a range of waxes used in the packaging industry as moisture barrier and strength coatings for print paper and corrugated cardboard packaging. Blends are tailored to suit different viscosities and application temperatures, to carefully control the weight per square meter applied.
Cerax CC 315
Congealing Point: 76 +- 2 degree °C
Colour: Light Brown
A blend of paraffinic, microcrystalline, resin and polymers to create the optimum coating for corrugated cardboard used in the packaging industry.
Cerax CC 320
Congealing Point: 76 +- 2 degree °C
Colour: Off-white
A blend of food contact approved waxes, resins and polymers used as a barrier coating in corrugated cardboard for food packaging.
Cerax Flute Coating
Congealing Point:
Colour:
A blend of waxes, resins and polymers used in pre-coating fluting of corrugated cardboard, to improve water resistance and strength of cardboard packaging.
Flexible packaging waxes are formulated to provide barrier coatings to converted paper-for-packaging applications. Cerax makes bespoke blends to create twist wrap functionality or heat sealable applications. Grades can be manufactured with food contact approved materials if necessary.
Cerax twist-wrap
Congealing Point:
Colour:
A high performance blend of coating waxes for paper conversion that requires twist or flex.
Ceraflex
Congealing Point: 61-64 degrees °C
Penetration at 25 degree °C: 15 – 20
Viscosity: 12-15mm 2S
Colour: Saybolt>27
Low viscosity paper coating/impregnating wax that imparts high gloss, is quick melting, economical and suitable for a wide variety of applications.
Ceraflex Heat Seal
Congealing Point:
Colour:
High performance coating wax that can be used as a barrier coating. It may perform a dual function as a heat sealable coating when heat is applied.
Cerax produces a range of mining cartridge explosive wax blends that are optimised to provide the perfect medium for stable, water-in-wax emulsions. The blends can be altered to create specific rheologies and cartridge stiffness.
